The Himajyoti Educational & Socio Cultural Trust is a registered Public Charitable Trust with Registered Trust Deed No. 6325 of 2005 and bearing Registration No. KRM/3/05/116 dated 03.12.05.

The Trust was formed in the year 2005 in the memory of Late Mrs. Himajyoti Dutta Choudhury (1952-2003), an eminent educationist from the North-Eastern province of Assam in India.

1952-2003

Late Mrs. Himajyoti Dutta Choudhury was a subject teacher of Logic & Philosophy at Puthimari Higher Secondary School (Assam) and Bhaskar Vidyapeeth Higher Secondary School, Guwahati (Assam), a member of the Syllabus committee & Head Examiner with the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council. In her 27 years long career as an educationist she inspired thousands of students from rural areas in Assam to become responsible citizens of India. Apart from academics, Late Mrs. Dutta Choudhury was also deeply interested in art & culture , and had always been proactive in promoting art & culture among her students and near & dear ones. She was also an able mother & a loving wife. She had a big fan following not just amongst her students but also in her neighbourhood, friend circle & family circle.

Late Mrs. Himajyoti Dutta Choudhury had the dream of working for the larger uplift of the people of Assam in an institutionalized way. The demands of her work life and her commitments towards her family forced her to postpone this dream till her children grew up and she had more time. But destiny had something else in store for her. She breathed her last on 25th of August, 2003 in Guwahati. Her death came as a bolt from the blue to her family, friends, colleagues, students, followers and well wishers.

The Himajyoti Educational & Socio Cultural Trust has been constituted by her family members to take forward her incomplete dream and reach out to the poor & needy, to the downtrodden and endeavour to uplift them through various educational & socio cultural initiatives.

The Trust does not have any institutionalized means of revenue generation. So far it has been financed solely by its member trustees. Since its inception in 2005, the Trust has made a humble beginning of activities. The trust has been awarding scholarships to meritorious students, distributing books for poor & needy students, helping farmers in rural areas, empowering women weavers as a modest realization of Late Mrs. Himajyoti Dutta Choudhury's dream.

The Trust aspires to spread its wings in a much bigger way in the near future, and take its contribution to the next level of value addition towards social uplift. However, this would not be possible without the help of generous individuals who are willing to donate towards the cause that the Trust serves.
